About Sinai / Geography |
Geography of Sharm
The popular cosmopolitan resort of Sharm El Sheikh, usually referred to simply as ‘Sharm’, lies at the southern-most tip of the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt, where the Gulfs of Aqaba and Suez meet the Red Sea. Sharm has developed along a series of picturesque bays with sandy beaches interspersed with rugged headlands, stretching from Sharm El Maya in the south to Nabq Bay in the north. Looking inland from Sharm one marvels at the majestic mountains which provide a dramatic backdrop to the resort.
|
|
The coastline of Sharm is lapped by the warm, crystal clear waters of the Red Sea, home to the most northerly coral reefs in the world and which support an amazing diversity of underwater life. It is the underwater life which has led to the development of Sharm and its worldwide recognition as one of the top diving destinations.
The heart of the resort is Naama Bay, home to many dive centres and hotels as well as bustling shops and bars. Never quiet, day time activity in Naama Bay revolves around the busy dive centres, hotels, restaurants and shops. By night, however, it is transformed into the vibrant, beating heart of the resort as its bars, nightclubs and pavement coffee-shops literally spring to life! |

Geography of Nabq
Mangroovy Village lies in the most northerly district of Sharm, known as Nabq. Over the past few years Nabq has developed as a resort in its own right with a number of shopping malls complete with banks, supermarkets and other amenities. A new world-class golf course has also been developed in the area, too. Nabq’s charm and uniqueness lies in its proximity to the adjacent safe-guarded natural wilderness of Nabq Protectorate which covers a large expanse of stunning desert landscape with a 90 km stretch of coastline. |
